The Ketogenic Diet may be the most important diet you will ever learn about because it can stop cancer in its tracks.
Almost 1 out of every 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime, yet there is no consensus on the actual diet you should follow once you leave the doctors office. Despite a world of information showing the powerful effects of certain foods on cancer recovery, most people leave their appointment more confused than ever.
The idea that cancer feeds on sugar originated with Otto Warburg – winner of the 1931 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the discovery of how cells make energy. Otto Warburg showed that cancer is a metabolic disease and that cancer cells must switch their metabolism from oxygen to fermented sugar to survive.
Switching your metabolism from the normal sugar/carbohydrate heavy diet to one of fat metabolism can shut off the supply chain to cancer cells, essentially starving them. The body then begins to transform fat into ketones for energy – thus the name Ketogenic diet.
Ketones are to cancer what Kryptonite is to Superman – the one thing that might bring it down or kill it.
Ketones are produced in the liver during the breakdown of fat. When the body runs out of carbohydrates for energy it breaks down fat into ketones and uses it for energy. The key is to become a “fat adapter” – by converting your metabolism from carbs/sugar to fat/ketones.
What does all of this have to do with cancer? Cancer is a metabolic disease, meaning a cancer cell has a damaged metabolism and can no longer burn oxygen for energy. The cancer cell then throws a switch making it run on fermented sugar.
If you switch your metabolism to fat and raise your ketones, your sugar levels drop and you can literally starve your cancer to death. The beauty of it is that you don’t need to figure out anything about your cancer – you’re just cutting off the food supply and starving it to death.
