Herbs never cease to amaze me. Schizandra has been one of my favorite herbs for over twenty years. Besides being a great herb for your lungs and liver, it’s always had a great mind clearing effect. It turns out schizandra is also an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.
Acetylcholinesterase is an enzyme in the brain that clears out excessive levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. The theory is that less of this enzyme makes more acetylcholine available in the brain. Acetylcholine is responsible for the processing speed of your brain. It’s also integral to storing and retrieving memory.
All memory disorders show a lack of acetylcholine and thus the theory that lowering the enzyme increases the available levels of acetylcholine and its positive effect on memory. The drugs made for treating Alzheimer’s are based on this theory and enzyme.
Most people’s diets are deficient in the types of foods that supply them with choline. Without a sufficient supply of dietary choline our brains suffer from a lack of the main nutrient used to make acetylcholine. Estimates put the number of choline deficient people in America at around 75%.
This gives you some insight into why TianChi feels so good. We combine choline, DMAE and B vitamins to supply your brain with the building blocks for acetylcholine. The herbs lower stress while the nutrients peak brain function – with the added bonus of schizandra making sure that the processing speed of your brain isn’t reduced prematurely.
